Course Open

Players Safety Procedures

1.     It is the responsibility of all persons playing or practicing golf to take all possible care for the Health & Safety of themselves and other persons on the Golf Course.

2.     Golfers should avoid striking balls to land in areas occupied by other players, greens staff and any other persons on the course, practice area or adjoining roads.  In particular care must be taken in the areas of the public footpath that runs across the course.  Remember, public may well not appreciate the dangers of golf balls in flight, and may not understand the meaning of “fore”.

3.     In the event of a miss hit shot that could be heading in the direction of persons on the course, the person should give a loud warning shouting “fore” and indicate with a raised arm the direction in which the ball is heading.

4.     Golfers should position themselves where they are least likely to be hit by a mis hit ball.  Similarly, they should walk in areas where their presence on the course will be obvious to other players.  If there is a blind spot on the course and play is delayed (for example over the ridge on the 9th) one player should remain on the ridge in sight of the game behind until all players are able to move forward out of range.

5.     Players should observe the signs on the course, and in particular must not walk forward to the 15th green until the group ahead have played from the 16th tee.  Those leaving the 16th tee have priority over those playing the 15th, who may have to wait to play their approach to the 15th green.

6.     Golfers should keep clear of maintenance sheds and work areas.  Similarly, they should avoid walking through areas where maintenance is taking place.  Avoid machinery and remember that greenstaff will not be able to hear when wearing hearing protection or indeed over the noise created by the machinery they are operating.

7.     In and around the Clubhouse and outside the Pro Shop, golfers should not leave golf bags or bags and shoes etc. where they may create a trip hazard.

8.     Golfers are reminded that they should report all incidents and any near misses to the Secretary as soon as possible.  Please carry a mobile phone with you on the course (turned off), as using it to call emergency services can save lives.  In the event of having to call emergency services, please also notify the Professional Shop (telephone number on the scorecard).
