|Standing on the 1st tee, looking over to Lewes town, on your left, you get a fabulous view of the castle. Lewes castle was built by the Normans soon after their conquest of England in 1066. It is of a motte and bailey construction and is famously one of only two remaining English castles to have a double motte, the other being Lincoln. (A motte being a raised earthwork).
