The recent rainfall has been a welcome sight, leaving the Lewes Golf Club course looking its best! While it has brought some additional growth, it's certainly not the wild surge we experienced earlier in the spring. Our dedicated greenkeeping team is working tirelessly to maintain course speed and true ball run. This includes daily green cutting and rolling at least twice a week.

Ash Dieback Update

You may have noticed some ash trees marked with a white X on the course. Unfortunately, these trees have been diagnosed with Ash dieback, a devastating disease spreading across the country. It's heartbreaking to see this beautiful species suffering such widespread damage.

We've already begun removing some affected trees. However, in certain cases, we've opted to leave the stumps to allow for potential regrowth and a chance for the tree to overcome the disease.

Course Improvement Projects

  • 7th Tee Steps: We've removed one set of steps on the 7th teeing ground. These will be replaced with a brand new set in the coming weeks. We plan to tackle the remaining set of teeing ground steps this autumn/winter.

  • Fairway Maintenance:  Overnight rain often brings out unwelcome guests – badgers and crows. These animals search for leatherjackets and chafer grubs living in the soil, unfortunately causing damage to the fairways in the process. While there are no longer effective deterrents available, our team diligently clears up the damage and repairs any divots. We appreciate your patience as we manage this ongoing challenge.

A Soaring Sight:

A special thanks goes out to Jake Gearty for capturing this incredible photo of a Peregrine Falcon soaring over the course.  These magnificent birds of prey are a rare treat to see, and their presence adds to the magic of playing a round at Lewes Golf Club.
